Our 4th Annual PEE WEE'S BIG WEEKEND

"Simone: Do you have any dreams?
Pee Wee
: Yeah, I'm all alone. I'm rolling a big doughnut and this snake wearing a vest.."

There are a few things we are fond of in this town-movies,beer and dressing in silly costumes to name a few.
But the bicycle-oh,the bicycle- how we love the bicycle!
It is with our love of two wheeled chariots in mind that Fleur de
Lethal Cinematheque brings Pee Wee's Big Adventure
to it's new home at The Hollywood Theatre
for the
4th Annual Pee Wee's Big Weekend!

In keeping with tradition we provide 2 screenings-
A late night for big kids and a family friendly matinee.
As with all Fleur de Lethal screenings the movie is only HALF the show!
This year, bust out your gray suits and Amazing Larry Hawaiian shirts
to enter our costume contest, limber up your toes for the "tequila" dance off
and win the cup for best Pee Wee impersonation!

FdL screenings are always interactive so shout, cheer and boo along as we follow our
pal Pee Wee on his big adventure.

*This screening goes out to the kids, the kid in all of us and the willingness
to go to the end of the earth for something you love...especially your bike.

A "Sing Out!" Matinee Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory

A little nonsense now and then, is relished by the wisest men." - Willy Wonka
Here at Fleur de Lethal we exuberantly relish in not only nonsense
but, also the magic of the cinema ( and in particular, the combination of the two.)
On May 19th we invite the whole family out for a day of nonsense, cinema and CANDY
for a special "Sing Out" Matinee of "Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory" at the dazzling Hollywood Theatre.

This 1971 classic starring Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka follows 5 lucky
children as they are granted unprecedented access to the most
eccentric candy factory in the world.
The tour quickly takes a turn as outrageous ( and hilarious)
misfortunes befall the naughty children and their indulgent parents leaving
Mr. Wonka to wonder are there any good children left in the world?

As with all Fleur de Lethal events the movie is only part of the event.
We encourage you to dress up as a character OR your favorite candy
and bring interactive props ( bubbles for fizzy lifting drinks?) to play along.
The audience is welcome to sing, dance, boo and cheer as we join
our hero Charlie Bucket on the adventure of a lifetime, full of "pure imagination"

The "Sing Out" Series

With the rise of shows like GLEE and an ever increasing roster of musical titles being added to
Hollywood's production schedules it is safe to say- The Movie Musical is BACK.

The "Sing Out!" Series is a collection of music based films and musicals that though not
deemed a "sing a long" are certainly films we love to sing to.
Ridiculous, outlandish, lavish, lovely and not always plausible-musicals ask us to suspend our disbelief
and embrace not the realities of life as it is but the fantasy of life as it could be.
( and if you ask FdL curator Nico Bella "Life as it SHOULD be")

The 2012 "Sing Out!" Calendar includes Xanadu,O Brother, Where Art Thou?,The 5th Annual Moulin Rouge Spectacular Spectacle
and The RETURN of Cabaret! These unique screenings encourage audience participation
So when you come out to a show dress up,dance, holler, laugh and most important- SING!

The 100th Anniversary of The RMS Titanic: A Night To Remember

April 15th, 1912 at 2:20 AM the heralded "Unsinkable" luxury liner The RMS Titanic sank to the bottom of the Atlantic after colliding with an iceberg.
The loss of over 1500 lives made world news as the greatest maritime disaster in history.

The tragedy of the sinking and it's relation to human ego and folly has fascinated generations inspiring numerous authors, film makers and artists to create work about the the great ship and her doomed passage.

In commemoration of the Titanic Centennial Fleur de Lethal Cinematheque and The Hollywood Theater invite you to a rare screening of "A Night To Remember". Made in 1958 this stunning film (which served as the main inspiration for James Cameron's blockbuster) was adapted from the novel by Walter Lord .Masterfully restored by Criterion the film maintains being beautiful and moving while providing a straightforward telling of the disaster. (In fact, this is the only account of the sinking that does not deride in to fictional subplots)

We will be marking the exact time at PST that the ship struck the iceberg and closing the event at the 100 years to the minute mark that the ship sank to her resting place.A lobby reception will open the festivities with refreshments for sale and guest will be treated to a performance by members of local string ensemble Queertet.
Costumes and period dress are welcome and we encourage attendees to wear their finest (living or dead) to join in the occasion.

Suddenly I'm this punk rock star of stage and screen
and I ain't never-I'm never turning back"

Oscars @ The Hollywood Theatre 2/26/2012

The Hollywood Theatre has a long tradition of throwing Portland's greatest Oscar parties.
This year they have combined forces with Fleur de Lethal to roll out their liveliest, loveliest and FREE-EST Oscar Party to date.

Hosted by "Portland's Funniest Person" IAN KARMEL and Fleur de Lethal's own MISS NICO BELLA this live broadcast of the 84th Annual Academy Awards is as much about the audience as it is the awards.
Dress to the nines to walk the paparazzi and press strewn "red carpet" and duck in to Robbie Augsperger's VIP ( Very Important Photo) Booth  to commemorate the glamorous day.
The audience will select best dressed/best themed costume and brave attendees can enter the" Statuette Roulette" .If your name is drawn during a commercial break you will have 1 minute to deliver the acceptance speech you have been practicing for years.
Winners will be rewarded with treasures, treats and movie passes from The Hollywood Theatre and Fleur de Lethal.

A 4 hour broadcast can lead to thirsty and hungry attendees so we have invited Portland favorites Violetta, al Forno Ferruzza Pizza and Voodoo Doughnuts to create a pop up "food court" for your enjoyment and a special Oscar themed bar will also be pouring themed drinks for the day.
Glamorous usherettes will be on hand to take and deliver orders to your seats so you won't miss a glitz-packed minute.

TRUE ROMANCE 2/14/2012 @ The Hollywood Theatre

Our 2nd annual "Truly Romantic " Valentine's-- and  FdL's DEBUT at it's new home, The Hollywood Theater.

"If you gave me a million years to ponder, I would've never guessed that true romance and Detroit would ever go together."

Ah,Valentines Day and her overblown ideas about love-
Some feel chocolate and flowers are romantic.Others, champagne and violins.
Here at Fleur de Lethal we think romance is best served with red lipstick, kung fu movies, comic books,
honey bears,guns and telephone booths.
Something leads us to believe many of you do too....

Penned by Quentin Tarantino and Directed by Tony Scott TRUE ROMANCE stars
Christian Slater and Patricia Arquette as Clarence and Alabama Worley.
Our inimitable lovers are joined in this wickedly romantic piece of pop-pulp cinema by a dream ensemble cast that includes:Dennis Hopper,Gary Oldman,Christopher Walken and James Gandolfini ( to name a few )

Because we are Fleur de Lethal a mere movie is simply not enough for this heart-filled day,
SO, we invite you to dress as your favorite character from the film and win movie tickets, tattoos and other lovey dovey prizes..

Shake out your leopard print jacket, put on those baby blue wayfarers and turn up the Elvis.
The only way to tell your baby "You're so Cool" this Valentines Day
is to take 'em to (the) Hollywood for a little TRUE ROMANCE.
